Top Campgrounds and RV Parks In Huntsville, AL
For those who enjoy the peaceful outdoors or need a place to park your RV while on vacation or extended stay, Huntsville host many great and affordable places. I only choose to add campgrounds with RV hookups in the blog. For those who like the primitive camping sites, try researching Bankhead National Forest or some of the local private camp sites such as 180 Degrees of Heaven. Top 10 Campgrounds and RV Parks in Huntsville
#1 Monte Sano State Park

Monte Sano State Park is my #1 RV/Campground in Huntsville. It was easy to pick them as my top spot giving the fact the park is so close to downtown Huntsville, and host great amenities such as a planetarium, conservation museum, a Japanese Garden, disc golf course, picnic tables, kid's playground, hiking trails, cabin rentals and a beautiful bluff view of the valley below. Monte Sano State Park host 89 modern campsites with 30-amp electricity and water. primitive sites are limited to 21 sites. The main campground includes two bathroom facilities with showers and laundry machines. They also offer a dumping station for $2 extra.
I couldn't help myself but throw in an older picture of when my kids were young camping at Monte Sano. They loved camping here and wanted to come back each fall and summer.

#2 Lake Guntersville State Park Campground

This campsite along with Monte Sano was our favorite camping sites when the kids were younger. The deer are so friendly here, they will literally come up to you and eat corn out of your hand. They have no fear of humans since the state park is an animal refuge. With camping, swimming, fishing and a beautiful view, this park is hard to beat./p>
The main campground ground has 295 improved campsites, a primitive camping area, two facilities with bathrooms, showers and laundry machines. All improved campsites have water and electrical hookups, a picnic table, grill, and a fire ring. A select number of sites have sewer hookups.

#3 Honeycomb Campground

This beautiful campground, located on Lake Guntersville with 37 of its RV site is along the shoreline. The campground is managed by a local corporation but the land is owned by the Tennessee Valley Authority. There are a total of 142 sites. All sites have a minimum of a 2-day stay. All full service sites have electricity and water; primitive site just have electricity. The campground does not have a sewer but a sewer dump truck will service your RV twice a day.
This park offers a lot of great amenities, such as: RV rentals, Cabin rentals, Pontoon rentals, fishing boats, canoes, kayaks, paddleboats, paddleboard and pavilion rentals. RV rentals are $100 plus site fee. Cabins with 2 rooms, kitchen and living rooms are $150 each night. Both RV and cabins fit 6 people. Pontoon boats are $350 for 8 hours and $200 for 4 hours. Fishing John boats are $75 for full day or $45 for half day. The park also has a general store offering food, drinks, camping supplies and bait/tackle. This is just a beautiful camp site, great for the entire family.

#4 Ditto Landings

Ditto landing is only 4 miles from downtown Huntsville and is one of the best values for RV and camping. They currently have 28 camp sites but will soon be expanding to another 40-65 sites in the next year or two. Ditto landing has a large Marina and offers great fishing from shore. The master plan for Ditto Landing includes a harbor expansion, more camping sites, mountain biking trails and a zip line course. This should be a great place for family fun once it is complete.

Point Mallard Campground host 233 full hookup sites and 6 primitive sites on 25 wooded acres. They offer Free Wi-Fi, a laundry facility, dump station, a grocery store, and three covered pavilions with restrooms & showers. The campground is a short walking distance from Golf Course, soccer fields, tennis courts, Water Park, and the ice complex. Each full service site is shaded with water, sewer and electricity. Primitive sites have picnic tables and a charcoal grill. 25 sites are pull-throughs.

#6 Sharon Johnston Park

Sharon Johnston Park is a great place to take your kiddos to go camping, swimming and fishing. Along with 50 campground/RV sites, the park offers a kid's playground, picnic tables, pavilion, swimming pool and a twelve acre fishing lake. Every site has an asphalt pad, fire ring, picnic table and a trash can. The primitive sites provide water and electricity (50-amp hookup). The full service sites have water, 50-amp electric and a septic hookup. The campground also provides 2 restrooms, laundromat and several picnic pavilions.

This one is just located off the Tennessee River. The park offers 52 graveled sites with water, 30/50 amp electricity and sewer. Great place to relax, swim, fish or walk along the shoreline. The facility also includes a climate controlled restroom and laundry area. Some sites provide shade, some with river frontage, and others have pull-through. Picnic tables are one each site

#8 U.S. Space & Rocket Center RV Park

A small but and nicely shaded RV Park with reasonable rates. It is within walking distance to the US Space & Rocket Center and host 27 sites, so call before you come as they can sell out quickly. Each site has 30-amp power, water and sewer.

For those who can get on and use MWR services on Redstone, the park is one of the best deals for RV and camping in the area. The park host 70 pads, laundry facility, 2 bath houses and pavilion.

Great location off I-65 if stopping for the night. Located just above Athens and a few miles south of the Tennessee line. This is a no frill park but a convenient place for travelers to stay overnight. The park has large parking spots for any size RV. Each site has a 30 & 50 amp service and sewer connections. They have Free Wi-Fi and water hydrants for great pressure. They do not offer long term amenities.
